Semen chilling and packaging

  • This is an option when the dog and bitch are in different locations within South Africa, such that semen can be collected and transported to reach the bitch and be inseminated within 24 hours.
  • An alternative to taking the bitch to the male for mating, which is obviously more stressful to the bitch.
  • Semen must be evaluated to ensure good viability to start off with.
  • Semen is extended with a specific extender, cooled at a known rate and packaged such that it maintains a low temperature but does not freeze.
